“Green Builder” Ralph Locke will be the featured speaker at Trout Lake Nature Center’s Friday Night Naturalist Program on Friday, March 17, at 6 p.m.
Locke, president of Environmental Construction & Consulting Inc. of Deland, pledges “a touch of green in every project.” He will describe internal and external architectural design approaches that are “more environmentally efficient, healthier for the occupants and less of a drain on our natural resources.”
With more than 30 years of experience as a building professional, he was an early pioneer in the green building industry. He is chairman of the Florida Green Building Coalition’s (FGBC) Education Committee and is an FGBC certifying agent, working with builders, developers, contractor associations, local governments and homeowners to encourage sustainable building practices.
The FGBC certification program – for new and existing homes — is builder-friendly and results in homes that are energy and resource-efficient, as well as being healthier for occupants. The program also encourages preservation of green space and natural resources, creation of safe, walkable communities, and the education of residents in sustainable living practices.
He also is a residential and commercial certifying agent with the Florida Water Star Program, a water conservation certification program structured similarly to EnergyStar.
