Friday Night Naturalist: Sacred Waters

November 19 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

What are the challenges facing Florida’s natural water resources and how are they being addressed? Trout Lake Nature Center’s Friday Night Naturalist series will resume on November 19 with “Sacred Waters: Exploring the Protection of Florida’s Fluid Landscapes” beginning at 6 PM.

This program by Dr. Victoria Machado will explore the issues facing our precious waterways and how we value them. Utilizing the art of storytelling and drawing from the spirituality underlying the environmental movement, she will explore present-day efforts to restore Florida’s aquatic resources. By focusing on issues related to springs and the Everglades, it will dive into the conversations that arise when Floridians view water as sacred.

Dr. Machado received her PhD from the University of Florida. Specializing in both religion and nature, her research explores spirituality within Florida’s present-day environmental movement. She is also concerned with state and local water issues, environmental justice, and the underlying values that promote social change. Machado also holds a certificate in Environmental Communication and Education and is currently teaching at Santa Fe College in Gainesville.

This program is a partnership between the Florida Humanities and Trout Lake Nature Center. Funding for this program was provided by Florida Humanities and sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture, and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
