Sunday Funday: Bugs and Butterflies

November 14 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Are you ready to touch a tarantula, meet a beetle, hold a water scorpion or even eat a grasshopper? Or maybe you’d just like to look at beautiful butterflies. Come learn more about bugs and butterflies at Trout Lake Nature Center at our Sunday Funday on November 14 from 1-3 PM. Take a closer look at creatures that fly and crawl and learn some fun and interesting things about them.

The ‘Arthropod Zoo’ from the University of Florida entomology department will be on hand with fantastic specimens to touch if you’re brave enough. Species include tarantulas, scorpions, Madagascar hissing roaches, giant cave roaches, and local insects as well.

If you are willing to taste a grasshopper or cricket, there will be samples of edible insects to try. This event will also offer microscope viewing, aquatic dipping at the dock, crafts and local experts with butterflies and moths. Visitors can go to our different stations at their own pace throughout the event. If you want to know more about an insect, bring a picture or a sample in a closed container and we will identify it for you. Sunday Funday is free and suitable for all ages.
